Award returned to rightful owner

Warrant Officer Stu Paterson from RNAS Culdrose has been reunited with his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, after a member of the public found it and handed it in.

Stu was the Drum Major of HMS Seahawk Volunteer Band, leading the Freedom of Helston parade last week, when his medal was dislodged from his uniform.

Following a social media plea, the medal was found by ex -serviceman Craig Tripplett at the bottom of Coinagehall Street, who promptly returned it to its rightful owner.

Stu has served in the Royal Navy for 29 years, and has been in the Volunteer Band service for 26 years – he has been Drum Major at RNAS Culdrose since 1995.

His current role at the base is operating as the Quality System Manager, assuring engineering standards and practices across the station, including all squadrons whether at home or deployed.
